Thrilling Finish Awaits in India vs England 5th Test
The final Test between India and England is set for a nail-biting finish as bad light ended Day 4 early. With England at 339/6, needing just 35 more runs, and India chasing four wickets, all results are still on the table. Jamie Smith is unbeaten on 2, while Jamie Overton is yet to score. The stage is perfectly set for a dramatic final day.
Early Stumps Decision Sparks Debate
The decision to call early stumps on Day 4 has drawn criticism, with former England captain Nasser Hussain questioning the move. During the third session, rain interrupted play, and players were taken off due to bad light. However, the rain quickly cleared, raising hopes for a restart. Instead, the umpires chose not to resume the match, ending the day early—a call that has left many puzzled.
Hussain Slams Officials Over Early Stumps Call
Nasser Hussain didn’t hold back his frustration, criticizing the match officials and groundsmen for what he called a "lack of common sense." He felt that a thrilling match like this should have continued, especially with a sold-out crowd eager to witness the finish.
Hussain Questions Missed Opportunity for a Grand Finish
Speaking on Sky Sports, Nasser Hussain expressed disappointment over the early stumps decision, saying:
"The most important thing is the fans and viewers who paid good money. Remember, Monday is a workday. This series deserved a proper finish in front of a packed crowd at an iconic venue like The Oval. Sunday could’ve delivered a memorable ending—either England chasing down the final 35 runs or Chris Woakes walking out injured. I just wonder if more could’ve been done. There were still around 42–43 minutes of play left, and surely something was possible within the rules."
Hussain Questions Use of Extra Time Option
Continuing his criticism, Nasser Hussain said:
"If the groundsman felt the covers couldn’t be removed in time, then yes, the umpires had to call stumps. But I’m just wondering—don’t they have the option of using an extra half hour? If there were just 10 runs to win by 7:30, I’m sure the umpires would’ve allowed it. So why not consider extending play from 6:42 PM (11:12 PM IST)? The decision could’ve come from the teams—it’s something they should have at least tried."
